City of Orlando CARES
Rental Assistance Program

The city, in partnership with Heart of Florida United Way (HFUW) is launching a Rental Assistance Program for residents that will provide grants of up to $10,000 in rental assistance per household and cover rent payments not made between March 1, 2020 through October 31, 2020. Residents should visit hfuw.org/orlandocares  to complete the online screening form to request an application. Pre-screened residents will receive the applications beginning on Wednesday, September 23 and completed applications can be submitted that same day.

Eligibility requirements for assistance include:

  • Applicants must be a City of Orlando resident/li>
  • Applicants must be at least one month past due on rent payments between March 1, 2020 to October 31, 2020
  • Applicants must have made their February 2020 rent payment
  • Applicants must have proof of financial hardship due to COVID-19
  • Applicants’ current household income cannot exceed 120% of Orange County’s Average Median Income ($87,240 for a family of four)

The city is funding this program with $1,532,608 in Coronavirus Relief Funds (CRF) and anticipates being able to assist an estimated 300 households with the available funding.

To maintain equity and provide a transparent process, completed applications will be processed by HFUW in the order they were received and approved.
